This time, when the knock sounded on his suite door, he knew it was Rose; the very air seemed to vibrate with silent expectation.

What would tonight bring?

Checking his reflection one last time in the mirror beside his walk-in closet, Omar smoothed a hand over the light blue cashmere sweater he'd chosen—it brought out the darkness of his hair and his eyes and emphasized the shelves of his pecs and the bulges of his bicep muscles.

He smirked at his reflection, then walked to the door, opening it.

Rose stood there, her fist raised to knock again.

She gasped, her gaze immediately taking him in, just as he knew she would. And he liked how easy it was to read her attraction for him. It would make tonight that much easier.

All he wanted, though, was to get to know his wife. It might seem like a novel idea to most, but to him, hearing the truth about her from her own lips—and not from outside sources, no matter how trusted—would go a long way to building something sustainable. Omar looked down. Rose was once again wiggling her toes, but this time she was pushing them into the carpet and flexing them, like a cat would.

For someone who supposedly loves money enough to scam people out of it, she certainly seems to prefer rather basic creature comforts.

Omar stepped back, gesturing for Rose to accompany him to the table, which was set up beside the wide-open doors to the terrace, which overlooked the lush palace gardens. A warm breeze floated in, carrying with it the aroma of the city: spices, sand, and heat.

The table had been set for just the two of them with two settings, two champagne glasses, and a bucket of chilled champagne. There were four covered platters, and he reached for the first one, lifting it.

Rose inhaled, her eyes closing as a look of bliss bloomed on her face.

He couldn't look away; she was stunning. Did she even know how incredible she looked right then? Did she know how he wanted to forget the meal and spend the evening devouring her?

As if hearing his thoughts, Rose's eyes popped open, and she peered at him, studying his expression. He had no idea what she might see on his face, but he was careful to hide any sign that he was losing his damn mind right then.
